A noun is a word that names a person, animal, thing, idea, or place. Nouns often function as subjects or objects in a sentence. There are a lot of nouns in the English language. There are different types of nouns:

  • Concrete Nouns: you identify them with your five senses (smell, touch, hear, sound, sight).
  • Countable and Uncountable Nouns: nouns that follow a singular or plural form are countable, and nouns that can ONLY have a singular form or are counted by other measuring metrics (liters, kilograms, kilometers, etc) are uncountable.
  • Proper Nouns: these are the names of people, places, and brands. 
  • Possessive Nouns: They show possession. Indicates a relationship between an object and its owner. 
  • Abstract Nouns: words that represent an intangible concept: ideas, emotions, feelings, or qualities. 
  • Collective Nouns: a single word used to name a group of people, animals, or things.

Concrete nouns name physical objects, people, places, things, etc. These you can identify with your five senses. Five senses (sight, touch, hearing, smell, taste). - You see with your eyes. - You smell with your nose. - You hear with your ears. - You touch/feel with your hands. - You taste with your mouth.
